# Requesting Approval to Send an Email

> If you can design emails but not send them, ask a teammate with sending access to approve and send your email for you.

If your role lets you build emails but not send them — the **Designer** [email permission level](/organization/roles-and-permissions#email-permission-levels) — you can ask a teammate who *does* have sending access to approve and send your email for you. No need to switch accounts or ask someone to rebuild it.

<Note>
  You'll see the **Request Approval** button instead of **Send Now** whenever your role is Designer. Managers and owners send emails directly and don't need to request approval.
</Note>

## How to Request Approval

1. Open your **draft** email and finish it — the same requirements as sending apply (recipients, from address, subject, and content must be set).
2. Click **Request Approval** in the top right.
3. Choose an **approver** from the list of teammates with sending access.
4. Optionally add a **message** with any context — what the email is for, when it needs to go out, or what to double-check.
5. Click **Request Approval**.

Your approver is notified by email right away and can review the email and approve or decline it from its page.

<Note>
  If you set a **schedule** on the email before requesting, approving it will schedule the email for that time. If there's no schedule, approving sends it right away. Set or change the schedule the same way you would before sending.
</Note>

## While You Wait

Once you've sent a request, the email page shows a banner letting you know it's **waiting for approval**. While a request is pending:

* The email can't be sent or scheduled by you — that happens automatically when your approver approves.
* Only one approval request can be open per email at a time.
* You can **Cancel Request** from the banner if you change your mind or need to make more edits first.

You'll get an email as soon as your approver responds.

***

## If Your Request Is Declined

If your approver declines, the email page shows who declined and any reason they left. The email stays a draft, so you can make changes and **request approval again** whenever you're ready.

***

## After It's Approved

When approved, the email sends or schedules immediately — you don't need to do anything else. On the sent email's page, the details show that **you** sent it and **who approved** it, so there's a clear record of both people involved.

<Note>
  Any teammate with sending access can approve your request, not only the person you chose — so your email can still go out if the person you asked is unavailable.
