# Adding DNS Records in Oncord

> Step-by-step guide to adding your Flowforth DNS records in Oncord so you can send emails from your domain.

This guide walks you through adding the required DNS records in Oncord to verify your domain with Flowforth.

<Note>
  Before starting, make sure you've already [added your domain](/domains/manage-domains) in Flowforth. You'll need the DNS record values shown on the domain settings page.
</Note>

<Warning>
  These steps only apply if your domain points to Oncord's name servers (ns1.oncord.com, etc.). To check, open your domain in Oncord and compare the **Recommended** and **Current** name servers at the top of the page. If Oncord shows that your DNS is hosted externally, make these changes at your DNS provider instead — see our [other DNS guides](/domains/guides).
</Warning>

## Park the Sending Subdomain

Oncord manages MX records for your whole domain, not for individual subdomains. Because Flowforth's sending records live on a subdomain (e.g., `send.yourdomain.com`), you first need to "park" that subdomain as a separate domain in Oncord. This gives it its own DNS zone where you can add the MX record.

1. Log in to your Oncord Dashboard
2. Click the **Settings** icon at the bottom of the left-hand sidebar, then select **Domains**
3. Click your main domain to edit it
4. Remove any existing records for the sending subdomain (e.g., `send.yourdomain.com`) so they don't conflict with the new zone, then click **Save Configuration** — if there are none, skip this step
5. Return to **Settings → Domains** and click **Park Registered Domain**
6. Enter the sending subdomain (e.g., `send.yourdomain.com`) as the domain name
7. Set the **Domain Mode** to **Redirect to the primary domain name**
8. Click **Park Domain**

<Note>
  When parking a subdomain of a domain already configured in Oncord, you don't need to set name servers.
</Note>

## Add the MX Record

The MX record goes in the parked subdomain's zone, not your main domain:

1. In **Settings → Domains**, click the newly parked subdomain (e.g., `send.yourdomain.com`) to edit it
2. Scroll to the **E-mail Hosting** section
3. Set **Where Will Incoming Mail be Delivered?** to **Host mail elsewhere**
4. In the **MX Entries** section, set the **Priority** to `10`
5. Copy the **MX Value** from Flowforth into the **MX Server** field
6. Click **Save Configuration**

| Oncord    | Flowforth | Example Value                           |
| --------- | --------- | --------------------------------------- |
| MX Server | Value     | `feedback-smtp.us-east-1.amazonses.com` |
| Priority  | Priority  | `10`                                    |

## Add the SPF Record (TXT)

The SPF record also goes in the parked subdomain's zone. While still editing the parked subdomain:

1. Scroll to the **DNS Records** table and find the empty row at the bottom
2. Enter the full sending subdomain (e.g., `send.yourdomain.com`) in the **New Hostname** field
3. Set the **Type** to `TXT`
4. Copy the **TXT Value** from Flowforth into the **Record** field
5. Click **Save Configuration**

<Note>
  Oncord's Host field uses the full hostname. Enter `send.yourdomain.com`, not just `send`.
</Note>

| Oncord | Flowforth | Example Value                         |
| ------ | --------- | ------------------------------------- |
| Type   | Type      | `TXT`                                 |
| Host   | Name      | `send.yourdomain.com`                 |
| Record | Value     | `"v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all"` |

## Add the DKIM Record (TXT)

The DKIM record goes on your main domain:

1. Go back to **Settings → Domains** and click your main domain to edit it
2. In the **DNS Records** table, find the empty row at the bottom
3. Enter the DKIM host as a full hostname (e.g., `resend._domainkey.yourdomain.com`) in the **New Hostname** field
4. Set the **Type** to `TXT`
5. Copy the **DKIM Value** from Flowforth into the **Record** field
6. Click **Save Configuration**

| Oncord | Flowforth | Example Value                      |
| ------ | --------- | ---------------------------------- |
| Type   | Type      | `TXT`                              |
| Host   | Name      | `resend._domainkey.yourdomain.com` |
| Record | Value     | `p=example_domain_key_value`       |

## Add the DMARC Record (TXT)

While not strictly required, adding a DMARC record is highly recommended. It improves deliverability and protects your domain's reputation. This record also goes on your main domain.

<Note>
  If your domain already has a DMARC record, you do not need to add another one. You can check by looking for an existing `TXT` record with the host `_dmarc.yourdomain.com` in your DNS Records table.
</Note>

1. While editing your main domain, find the empty row at the bottom of the **DNS Records** table
2. Enter the DMARC host as a full hostname (e.g., `_dmarc.yourdomain.com`) in the **New Hostname** field
3. Set the **Type** to `TXT`
4. Copy the **DMARC Value** from Flowforth into the **Record** field
5. Click **Save Configuration**

| Oncord | Flowforth | Example Value           |
| ------ | --------- | ----------------------- |
| Type   | Type      | `TXT`                   |
| Host   | Name      | `_dmarc.yourdomain.com` |
| Record | Value     | `v=DMARC1; p=none;`     |

## Add the Tracking Records (Optional)

If you enabled click tracking or open tracking when adding your domain in Flowforth, you'll need these two additional records. You can also enable tracking later from the domain detail page in Flowforth — the records will appear in your DNS table when tracking is turned on.

### CNAME Record (Tracking)

While editing your main domain, add a new row to the **DNS Records** table:

1. Enter the tracking host as a full hostname (e.g., `links.yourdomain.com`) in the **New Hostname** field
2. Set the **Type** to `CNAME`
3. Enter `links1.resend-dns.com` in the **Record** field
4. Click **Save Configuration**

| Oncord | Flowforth | Value                   |
| ------ | --------- | ----------------------- |
| Type   | Type      | `CNAME`                 |
| Host   | Name      | `links.yourdomain.com`  |
| Record | Value     | `links1.resend-dns.com` |

### CAA Record (Tracking)

<Warning>
  Oncord's DNS editor supports A, AAAA, CNAME, SRV, and TXT records — there is no CAA option. If you use click or open tracking, contact Oncord support and ask them to add a CAA record for your domain with the value `0 issue "amazon.com"`. If you don't use tracking, you can skip this record entirely.
</Warning>

## Verify in Flowforth

Once all records are added in Oncord, go back to your domain in **Settings → Domains** and click the **"Records Added"** button. Flowforth will check your DNS records and verify the setup in the background.

<Note>
  Oncord notes that DNS changes can take up to a few hours to take effect, so verification may not succeed right away. If it doesn't, wait and try again later.
</Note>

## Troubleshooting

* **Changes don't seem to do anything**: Confirm your domain points to Oncord's name servers. If your DNS is hosted externally, changes made within Oncord have no effect — use the [guide for your actual DNS provider](/domains/guides) instead.
* **Verification failed**: Double-check the records you added in Oncord for copy/paste errors. Make sure hostnames use the full form (e.g., `send.yourdomain.com`, not `send`).
* **Duplicate SPF record**: There should only ever be one SPF record per hostname. If one already exists on the sending subdomain, edit it rather than adding a second one.
* **Still not verifying after 72 hours**: Contact [support@flowforth.co](mailto:support@flowforth.co) and we'll help you debug the issue.
